Elek Miller focuses his practice on privacy, security, and technology; labor and employment; and general school law. He also works on intellectual property matters. In his role, Elek advises a diverse set of clients such as businesses, schools, municipalities, medical providers and practices, non-profit organizations, and state governments. Elek also routinely represents clients before state and federal agencies, and in state and federal courts.

Businesses turn to Elek for advice on a full range of intellectual property, privacy, cybersecurity and data strategy matters. Elek also has substantial experience registering and protecting trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual property. He regularly advises clients on compliance with state and federal data privacy and security laws, drafts and negotiates complex privacy-related technology agreements, and guides the development of data security and privacy programs.

Elek also regularly advises employers on wage and hour issues, employee leave questions, hiring and firing employees, drug and alcohol testing, employment agreements, and complying with state and federal employment laws.

Additionally, Elek advises and represents schools on student discipline and student rights matters, labor and employment issues, compliance with state and federal laws, drafting and implementation of policies and procedures, and technology adoption. For several years, Elek taught school law to future administrators as an adjunct professor at the University of Maine, and is frequently invited to present at conferences and events.

A lifelong Mainer, Elek enjoys spending time with his wife, kids, and black lab – especially taking advantage of all of the recreational activities that Maine offers. He’s also a Board Member of the TD Beach to Beacon 10K, and formerly served as a Board Member and Secretary of the Board of Woodfords Family Services. Elek has also been recognized by Katahdin Counsel for his significant pro bono legal work.
