Benjamin Plante focuses his practice on advising municipalities on a broad spectrum of complex legal issues including property tax assessment, abatements, exemptions, liens and foreclosure; land use ordinance drafting, violations and enforcement; enforcement of deed covenants, conditions, and restrictions; Freedom of Access Act requests; and, administrative appeals to federal agencies. Ben also represents individuals and citizen groups, such as homeowner’s associations, both before municipal boards and in land use litigation. Ben strives to provide timely, sensible solutions to clients’ complicated legal questions.

Ben has successfully represented municipalities in 80K land use enforcement actions, 80B appeals, and a variety of other matters. He has also appeared in court and before administrative agencies such as the Federal Communications Commission and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

During Law School, Ben served as the Executive Editor of the Ocean and Coastal Law Journal, interned with the Maine Public Advocate’s Office, and practiced as a student attorney at the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic.  He also spent a semester in practice as a full-time extern with the Federal Communication Commission’s Competition Policy Division in Washington, D.C.

In his free time, Ben takes advantage of everything that Maine has to offer, including skiing, hiking, and biking. He also participates in the Volunteer Lawyers Project’s Mead Fellowship, which trains attorneys to provide legal services to indigent and unrepresented populations in Maine.
