About
Hannah Vilas’ multidisciplinary practice includes advising clients on a variety of land acquisition, conservation and development projects.
Known for her collaborative and detail-oriented approach, Hannah advises the Land Use & Conservation group’s land trust clients on matters related to both the acquisition and stewardship of a broad range of land types. She joined the Drummond Woodsum team supporting a high-profile effort to permanently conserve nearly 80,000 acres in western Maine, providing key legal support in a deal involving several collaborating clients.
Before she became an attorney, Hannah’s time as a caseworker at Preble Street in Portland, Maine, introduced her to the downstream consequences of the nation’s widespread housing shortage. As a member of Drummond Woodsum’s affordable housing and real estate groups, she helps address that crisis by advising both affordable and market-rate developers on title, acquisition and financing work, including complicated Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and Historic Tax Credit (HTC) projects.
Best Lawyers has named Hannah to its “Ones to Watch” lists for both land use and zoning law and real estate law. She received numerous honors throughout her academic career at Kenyon College and the Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, including the F. Hodge O’Neal Corporate Law Award. In 2024, Hannah won the Kenneth R. Clegg Award, given to the top scorer on the Maine Bar exam among first-time applicants.
She grew up in Maine and enjoys spending time with her husband, George, being outside, hiking, reading, and cooking.
