Land Trust Alliance spotlights Midcoast conservation projects
May 14, 2026
The fruits of the labors of Drummond Woodsum’s Land Trust & Conservation team were back in the news recently, when the Land Trust Alliance spotlighted two separate Maine conservation projects involving the group.
In July 2025, firm client Northeast Wilderness Trust provided significant funding to help Midcoast Conservancy acquire 327 acres in the northern headwaters of the Sheepscot River. As a result of the deal, organized by Stacey Caulk and Lisa Whitt, Northeast Wilderness now holds a 663-acre forever-wild easement on both the newly acquired land and several additional parcels within Midcoast Conservancy’s Northern Headwaters preserve. The agreement will permanently protect multiple vital ecosystems, including a river system that is important to the endangered Atlantic salmon.
In December, Laura Hartz and Rick Shinay advised a landowner on the fee donation of a 280-acre bog called Watersong to the Midcoast Conservancy. The area, conserved by a Declaration of Charitable Trust, is one of the “largest and most ecologically diverse wetland systems in the region,” according to the Land Trust Alliance.
Drummond Woodsum is proud to help organizations like the Northeast Wilderness Trust secure the future of Maine’s wild spaces.
