About

For almost 20 years, Shawn Tanguay has dedicated his legal practice to advising clients on wide-ranging municipal law issues. A proud native of New Hampshire, Shawn was drawn to the opportunity to help municipal employees with little – if any – legal expertise navigate the maze of applicable legal issues to best serve their communities.

Shawn routinely advises governing bodies, administrators, and other municipal bodies on procedures of law, statutory obligations, and potential legal implications of different courses of action. Sorting through a complicated legal issue can be expensive, and Shawn tries to distill the client’s goal in the situation in order to provide a more direct and cost-effective approach to achieving success.

Shawn also regularly represents his clients in litigation ranging from administrative appeals, district court matters, superior court actions and appeals to New Hampshire’s Supreme Court.  He was one of the lead attorneys in one of New Hampshire’s largest utility tax appeals, which involved approximately 75 municipalities and the state’s two largest utility companies. Shawn successfully defended his clients before the New Hampshire Board of Tax and Land Appeals and on appeal to the New Hampshire Supreme Court.

Shawn and his family embrace the outdoor New Hampshire lifestyle – skiing in the winter and kayaking in the summer. Dedicated to his community, Shawn volunteers with the New London Outing Club (as a coach, committee member, and supporter), and he serves as a judge at the annual “We the People” competition – a civics-based high school program focused on constitutional law.
