About
Ben McCall is a municipal attorney at Drummond Woodsum, where he partners with towns, cities, and public entities across Maine to help them navigate the complex and constantly evolving landscape of local governance. Ben provides comprehensive legal support on everything from ordinance drafting to land use enforcement, zoning, road law, and cannabis regulation. Whether guiding clients through a tough Rule 80B appeal or advising on day-to-day municipal operations, Ben offers thoughtful advice, dependable support, and a calm presence when clients need it most.
Before joining Drummond Woodsum, Ben practiced at two prominent regional law firms, where he built a strong track record representing municipalities in complex land use, zoning, and enforcement matters—including litigation and appeals before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
Ben is a graduate of Bates College, where he majored in Politics and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Maine Law Review. Ben has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America®: Ones to Watch for Land Use & Zoning Law and Municipal Law and named a New England Super Lawyers Rising Star in those same areas. He also received the Shur-Frinsko Award for Municipal Law and the Wernick Prize for Legal Writing.
A South Portland native, Ben lives in Portland with his wife, son, and two cats. He is a former member of the City of Portland Zoning Board of Appeals and a former Board Member at Fork Food Labs. When he’s not working, he’s likely watching or reading about soccer—especially Portland Hearts of Pine—or out for a run. Ben is also an avid amateur photographer.
