Practice Overview
Drummond Woodsum’s Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Compliance practice offers sophisticated legal counsel for a rapidly changing healthcare industry.We work closely with our healthcare provider clients, including hospitals, clinics, therapists, counselors, medical groups, and a variety of similar entities, to design, implement, and provide ongoing advice with respect to HIPAA compliance programs. We also provide advice and guidance regarding compliance with 42 CFR Part 2, as well as state laws. We have performed audits to help strengthen existing programs, policies, and procedures to ensure that they meet the “effectiveness” standard necessary to provide protection in case of an investigation or enforcement action. We also prepare more general HIPAA compliance plans that help our clients ensure that they have the appropriate policies and safeguards in place to protect the privacy, portability, and security of patients’ protected health information. We also assist clients with data incident and breach response, when the need arises.We counsel clients in a manner that ensures their compliance with current and anticipated statutes and regulations, while at the same time remaining sensitive to clients’ business realities and constituent concerns.Our HIPAA Compliance team is comprised of attorneys with a unique combination of privacy, data security, and health care industry experience.
