Legal Administrative Assistant

Legal Administrative Assistant 

Portland, Maine

Drummond Woodsum is seeking a Legal Administrative Assistant to join our firm’s Litigation Practice Group.  This is an entry-level position with a support-based approach, fielding administrative tasks and requests as they come in from our legal assistants, paralegals, and attorneys from our litigation group.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Hand deliveries to court
  • Greeting clients
  • Preparation for meetings (client or internal), including scheduling, meal orders, setting up/breaking down conference rooms
  • Processing incoming and outgoing mail
  • Submitting travel reimbursement and other expense sheets
  • Provide backup support and absence coverage
  • Perform various administrative functions such as conflict checks, opening new matters, and timekeeping management as needed
  • Carrying out other administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Possess strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • General knowledge of common software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, PDF, Excel, and MS Word
  • Able to multitask and balance priorities
  • Motivated to learn and grow

We seek an experienced real estate and probate litigator to join the Trial Services Group in our Portland, Maine office. If you bring at least 3-5 years of experience and a passion for these areas of law, we want to hear from you!

In this position, you’ll focus on real estate and probate litigation matters, offering you an opportunity to showcase your expertise with clients and in the courtroom. You will work closely with other litigators, as well as the firm’s real estate and probate subject matter experts, on cases ranging from boundary disputes, to quiet title actions, to guardianship and will contests.

Tribal Nations Associate

Drummond Woodsum is seeking an associate to join its nationally-ranked Tribal Nations Services Group.  The associate selected for this position will work from either our firm’s home office in Portland, Maine or our satellite office in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Drummond Woodsum’s Tribal Nations Services Group provides high-level, quality services to Tribal nations, Tribal enterprises, and companies that do business with Tribal nations or in Indian Country.  Our practice, with Tribal government clients and Tribal businesses, advocate for Nation building actions through the creation and maintenance of strong, resilient governmental structures and economies.  We serve as outside general counsel to many of our clients, guiding our clients through complex, sophisticated Indian Country projects and facilitating nation-wide business and financial transactions.  We represent our Tribal clients in litigation and other adversarial proceedings, advocacy settings before federal, state, and tribal forums, as well as in various negotiations with States and other non-tribal governments.  Because Drummond Woodsum is a full-service law firm, our attorneys share their deep knowledge of their respective areas of law, enabling us to meet and satisfy our clients’ needs efficiently and effectively.

Qualifying candidates include associates with two to four years of experience.  Required skills include top academic credentials, strong analytical capacity, excellent communication skills (particularly legal writing skills), and an athletic spirit with the ability to work well on a team.  A judicial clerkship is not required, but is preferred.  Membership in a Tribal Bar is also strongly preferred.  Knowledge of and experience working in indigenous communities is strongly preferred, as members of the firm’s Tribal Nations Services Group are expected to be dedicated to advocacy on behalf of indigenous peoples.
