Corporate Paralegal

Corporate Paralegal
Portland, Maine

Drummond Woodsum is seeking a full-time Corporate Paralegal to join our Portland, ME office. This position will provide a range of support for attorneys in our Business Services Group.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting business entity formation documents
  • Preparing, reviewing, analyzing, and organizing documents in connection with a wide range of complex corporate transactions
  • Managing the records of the firm’s extensive list of business clients
  • Coordinate the filing of annual reports in Maine and other various states
  • Managing requests for various state certifications and filings
  • Interacting with clients on requests for materials in the firm’s records
  • Assisting in the closing of various transactions including drafting closing documents and certificates, and the organization and circulation of closing documents
  • Coordinate replying to audit request letters received by the firm

Qualifications & Position Expectations:

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team through effective communication strategies
  • Ability to manage workflow and work under tight deadlines with competing and shifting priorities
  • Energetic, organized, detail-oriented, and a willingness to work hard
  • Ability to bill 1300 hours annually towards the firm’s paralegal billing expectation
  • Previous experience handling general corporate and other business transactions

Special Education Attorney

Special Education Attorney
Portland Maine and Manchester, New Hampshire

Drummond Woodsum’s Portland, ME and Manchester, NH offices are looking for an experienced attorney to join our school law practice representing public school districts with a focus on special education. Our special education practice serves schools throughout the States of Maine and New Hampshire. Our practice includes advising school clients on their special education duties and other student rights issues, as well as conflict resolution and litigation of special education disputes. Our school law team also regularly conducts lively presentations and trainings for our clients and school officials, both in person and via online platforms.

The ideal candidate for this position is an attorney with at least 3-5 years of legal experience and a desire to practice law using a team based approach. While experience in the world of
special education is desirable, it is more important that the right candidate have excellent academic credentials, research, writing, and analytical skills, and be highly motivated to learn.
We are looking for a candidate who has effective interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence, and who will be able to balance top-notch client advocacy with compassion and
understanding. The right candidate will also be committed to conducting trainings for school leaders and members of the education community, advising school superintendents and special education directors, and handling litigation before administrative tribunals and courts.

The successful candidate will be based out of the firm’s Portland, Maine office. The group’s practice involves affordable housing and other community development transactions, including representation of developers and funders in significant low-income housing tax credit and HUD transactions, historic tax credit transactions, new market tax credit transactions, and other public-private partnership transactions primarily in Maine and New Hampshire. Drummond Woodsum seeks a real estate attorney with 2+ years of law firm practice experience to join its busy real estate and project development practice at its Portland, Maine offices. The firm’s real estate practice involves representation of clients requiring assistance with all aspects of real estate acquisition, permitting, development and sale, including work for leading conservation organizations, affordable housing developers, solar project developers, school districts, municipalities and individuals. The successful candidate must be proactive, with a strong work ethic and the ability to effectively manage internal and external client and counsel relationships. Candidates applying for attorney positions with Drummond Woodsum should have outstanding academic credentials, comparable law firm or relevant government practice experience, at least two letters of reference, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Maine bar admission is strongly preferred.
