FOAA Nuts and Bolts: A Practical Guide to Responding to Public Records Requests
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Schools have seen an uptick in the number, and complexity, of public records requests in recent years. Because schools have very specific obligations regarding how they must respond to these kinds of requests, it is important that everyone involved knows what is expected of them, and what the law requires. During this seminar, Drummond Woodsum’s school attorneys will provide attendees with the knowhow and tools they need to properly respond to public records requests. The seminar will also include one or more exercises, led by our presenters, where attendees will work through real-world public records requests from beginning to end.
TOPICS WILL INCLUDE:
- Determining which records qualify as “public records”.
- The steps required to respond to requests.
- Timelines for responding to requests.
- Charging for time and copies.
- Tools to help manage the response process.
- Responding to a request from “A-Z.”
- And more!
- And much more!
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
This program is designed for all school personnel who may receive, or are involved in processing, public records requests, including building and central office administrators, building and central office administrative assistants, technology directors and staff, and Public Access Officers.
