Esther Labrado Participates in Columbia Law School’s Native American Law Students Association (NALSA) Moot Court Competition
On Saturday, March 2, 2024, Esther Labrado served as a judge for Columbia Law School’s Native American Law Students Association (NALSA) moot court competition. Serving alongside other federal Indian law scholars and practitioners, Esther played the role of a U.S. Supreme Court justice, hearing arguments on a highly complex case involving issues of tribal sovereign immunity, subdelegation and tribal co-management of a river.
“It was a great opportunity to connect with and support students as they prepare for working in Indian country!” said Labrado.
NALSA fosters academic support for Native American students and others interested in American Indian Legal issues. Columbia’s teams for the National Moot Court Competition consist of pairs of first year students and are coached by former participants. Each team submits an appellate brief and competes in the national oral advocacy competition.
