Drummond Woodsum Welcomes Esteemed Entertainment Lawyer Ari Solotoff; Launches Entertainment, Media, & the Arts Practice

Drummond Woodsum is pleased to announce that Ari Solotoff, a seasoned entertainment lawyer, has joined the firm as a shareholder. With Solotoff’s arrival, he will launch and lead the firm’s Entertainment, Media, & the Arts practice group, which significantly expands the firm’s legal service offerings, especially in copyright, entertainment law, and the arts.

Prior to joining Drummond Woodsum, Ari was the Managing Attorney and founder of Solotoff Law, a boutique firm he founded in 2020 with a specialized focus on representing clients at the intersection of copyright, entertainment, media, and the arts. He has provided legal guidance to an array of high-profile clients and their estates, including Billboard-charting songwriters, Pulitzer Prize-winning authors, prominent composers, performing ensembles, and visual artists.

“Ari brings a wealth of experience and a unique approach to the entertainment law space, and we are thrilled to have him on board,” said Drummond Woodsum’s Managing Director, Bill Stockmeyer. “We look forward to the contributions he will make to our firm and the clients we serve.”

Ari’s practice is well-known for handling a variety of complex legal matters and copyright-driven cases, including the valuation and sale of music catalogs and podcasts, scripted and unscripted television and motion picture development, and cutting-edge rights and licensing issues in artificial intelligence, as well as digital and social media. He has also been a champion for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, advocating for equity, inclusion, and representation in the arts and entertainment industries.

Ari is deeply engaged as a leader in the national field, serving as Chair of the Theatre & Performing Arts Division of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Entertainment and Sports Industries. He is also a committed educator, having served as an adjunct professor at several prestigious institutions, including at Indiana University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Maine School of Law, where he has taught courses on entertainment law and legal issues in the arts. He has lectured widely and been recognized for his contributions to the industry, earning distinctions such as “Rising Star” and “Ones to Watch” in entertainment law.

“I’m very excited to join Drummond Woodsum and work alongside such a respected group of professionals,” said Ari Solotoff. “This opportunity will allow me to provide even more comprehensive legal services to my clients while continuing to work at the forefront of entertainment, arts, and culture law.”

Ari holds a JD from the University of Maine School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude, and a BA in Classical Languages from the University of California, Berkeley.
