Drummond Woodsum attorneys help secure future of iconic Wiscasset farm
Morris Farm, long a staple of the Wiscasset community, is set to remain agricultural land indefinitely, thanks in part to the efforts of Drummond Woodsum’s Land Use & Conservation experts.
With a 30-year restrictive covenant scheduled to expire and the Morris Farm Trust unable to continue operating the nonprofit educational farm, the property’s future appeared uncertain in early 2025. That’s when Maine Farmland Trust stepped in to purchase the farm with a plan to later transfer the land to a mission-driven buyer.
On April 10, Maine Farmland Trust reached an agreement to sell the property to Chris and Terry Baldwin, whose plans for the land include farming, a retail operation centered on a farmstand, and community programming. The deal, which attorneys Stacey Caulk and Laura Hartz helped put together, includes an agricultural conservation easement that will preserve the land forever, protecting it from development.
Drummond Woodsum is proud to help nonprofits like Maine Farmland Trust conserve New England’s wild and agricultural lands so that future generations can continue to enjoy them.
