Attorney David J. Backer Reappointed to Maine’s Probate and Trust Law Advisory Commission
Drummond Woodsum Attorney David J. Backer has been reappointed by Chief Justice Valerie Stanfill to serve another three-year term on the Maine Probate and Trust Law Advisory Commission, reaffirming his leadership and ongoing contributions to the development of probate and trust law in the state.
The Commission, created by the Maine Legislature in 2009, is responsible for the continuous study and review of Maine’s probate and trust laws and for recommending legislative updates to improve those laws. It is composed of five attorneys and three judges appointed by the Chief Justice, one member appointed by the Governor, and a designee from the Office of the Attorney General. Backer has served as Chair of the Commission since its inception 15 years ago.
In addition to his public service, David J. Backer leads the Trust and Estate Planning Practice Group at Drummond Woodsum, where he advises individuals, families, and closely held businesses on complex estate planning, succession management, tax planning, and wealth preservation strategies.
