About
Eloise Melcher is an associate in Drummond Woodsum’s Trial Services Group, where she focuses her practice on civil litigation. She brings strong analytical skills, sharp legal writing, and a deep understanding of federal court practice to every matter she handles.
Before joining the firm, Eloise served as a law clerk to U.S. Magistrate Judge John C. Nivison of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine. She also externed with U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen Frink Wolf during law school, gaining a valuable perspective on judicial decision-making and courtroom practice.
Eloise’s background includes experience in public service, having worked as a Legislative Aide to Congresswoman Chellie Pingree in Washington, D.C., prior to attending law school. This policy-focused foundation informs her thoughtful and strategic approach to legal advocacy.
While in law school, her case note “Five Times More Likely: Haaland v. Brackeen and What It Could Mean for Maine Tribes” was published in Volume 75.2 of the Maine Law Review, reflecting her interest in legal issues impacting Native communities and the broader implications for tribal sovereignty.
Outside of her legal work, Eloise enjoys reading and exploring the outdoors. This past summer, she took up stand-up paddleboarding and spent time paddling the many lakes of Maine.
