Drummond Woodsum Celebrates Four Client Projects Honored as 2024 Notable Projects by MEREDA
Drummond Woodsum is proud to celebrate the recognition of four client projects—Stacy M. Symbol Apartments, Front Street Redevelopment, Seaport Community Health Center, and Tekαkαpimək Contact Station—as part of the Maine Real Estate & Development Association’s (MEREDA) 2024 Notable Projects. These projects represent some of the most impactful and thoughtfully executed commercial developments across the state, and each reflects MEREDA’s core mission of promoting responsible development in Maine.
Each year, MEREDA selects a group of standout projects that exemplify innovation in design, construction, sustainability, and community benefit. The 2024 awards were presented at MEREDA’s Notable Night celebration on May 14, 2025, an event that also marked MEREDA’s 40th anniversary.
“We’re thrilled to see our clients’ projects recognized for their excellence and social impact,” said Ted Kelleher of Drummond Woodsum’s affordable housing team. “Our work on these developments exemplifies our commitment to helping our clients build and improve Maine’s communities.”
Drummond Woodsum is honored to have provided legal services for the following projects:
- Stacy M. Symbol Apartments – Westbrook
A 60-unit affordable senior housing community that forms part of a larger 358-unit mixed-income development. Built on a former golf course, the site incorporates 40 acres of conserved land and public trails. The project showcases resilience and inter-agency collaboration, overcoming logistical and engineering challenges to deliver much-needed housing.
- Front Street Redevelopment – Portland
A multi-phase development including a 45-unit affordable senior housing project and 60 unit affordable family housing project. This multi-phased development helped to clean up and improve a former public housing property while creating over 100 units of new, high quality housing that will be affordable for the long term. Subsequent phases will add new affordable homeownership opportunities in the city of Portland.
- Seaport Community Health Center – Belfast
An expansion by Penobscot Community Health Center that dramatically increases access to care for underserved rural populations. The project not only enhances medical services but also sets the stage for additional development, including affordable housing in the surrounding area.
- Tekαkαpimək Contact Station – Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument
A sustainably designed, off-grid visitor center built by the Elliotsville Foundation. This striking 7,896 square foot facility integrates local materials and Indigenous perspectives, serving as a platform for cultural education and environmental stewardship.
Drummond Woodsum provided comprehensive legal services for all three projects, supporting clients from inception through development and execution. The firm remains committed to advancing projects that serve the public good and align with Maine’s values of sustainability, equity, and responsible land use.
