Adam Cote quoted by NBC News in story on Maine's Senate race

June 5, 2026

Drummond Woodsum attorney Adam Cote was quoted in a recent NBC News story on the latest media bombshell to shake Maine’s Senate primary race.

The piece followed a New York Times report detailing interviews with several former girlfriends of presumptive Democratic nominee Graham Plater, whose fans have continued to flock to campaign events despite the growing list of controversies surrounding the oysterman. Some of the women interviewed by the Times recalled “toxic” and “unsettling” behavior from Platner, while others described him as “a great boyfriend” and a “gentle giant.”

Cote, a former gubernatorial candidate and a policy advisor, told NBC News that Maine Democrats have been “openly debating” how to navigate Platner’s political baggage, which threatens to derail his effort to unseat longtime Republican incumbent Susan Collins.

“I don’t know if this is a death-by-a-thousand-cuts situation,” Cote told the outlet, “or if this is a situation — here he is putting together a movement, and he’s a bit of a Teflon candidate in that sense where people are more motivated by his message and the way he delivers it.”

NBC News is one of several national outlets that have recently sought Cote’s perspective on the contest, a key race that could determine which party controls the Senate coming out of this fall’s midterm elections.
