Hannah King, Leader of the firm’s Regulated Substances Practice Group, is one of Maine’s most knowledgeable and visible faces of the highly-regulated and complicated cannabis industry. In her role, Hannah advises cannabis businesses of all sizes in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont on a broad spectrum of issues ranging from state and local licensing and permitting to compliance with ever-changing laws and regulations. She represents a wide array of marijuana businesses including standalone medical and adult use hydro-carbon, distillate, and CO2 extraction facilities, infused edibles and beverage producers, cultivators, retailers, test labs, as well as vertically integrated operators. Her clients include the full spectrum of small family-run businesses to large multi-state operators.
Hannah also has substantial experience advising Tribal Nations across the country looking to enter the cannabis and hemp markets on the status of state and federal marijuana laws, development of Tribal regulatory regimes, negotiations for joint ventures with cannabis operators, and compact drafting and negotiations.
Because of her legal expertise and collaborative problem-solving skills, Hannah was appointed to represent Maine’s adult use marijuana industry to the State of Maine Marijuana Advisory Commission, formed to continuously study and make recommendations to the legislature on best regulatory practices for marijuana. As an advisory board member of Maine Professionals for Regulating Marijuana, Hannah was also heavily involved in the drafting of Maine’s Marijuana Legalization Act and amendments to the Medical Use of Marijuana Act.
Hannah also advises private companies and tribal clients on state and federal hemp laws, helping them navigate the complex federal and diverse state and local laws governing the production and sale of hemp and hemp products, including food products containing hemp extracts.
Hannah has been recognized by Super Lawyers as a Top-Rated Cannabis lawyer and is regularly published by the Cannabis Law Report, a national news and legal resource for the legal cannabis industry. She is a member of The ArcView Group, has presented at conferences nationwide including the Cannabis Business Executives Convention, and has been a mentor presenter at Canopy Boulder.
In her free time, Hannah enjoys spending time with her husband and two children on their farm – raising dairy goats, chickens, and pigs. She also enjoys snowboarding, hiking, gardening, and reading.
