Dee Barton is a tax attorney who delivers thoughtful, high-quality legal advice to companies, non-profits, and individuals on a wide variety of tax matters including mergers and acquisitions, investment structuring, partnership tax, corporate tax, international tax, tax credits, and tax-exempt organizations.

As a critical thinker and legal analyst, Dee strives to explain complex tax concepts to people with all levels of experience in a way that is easy to digest. She also helps clients understand how taxes will impact their business operations and/or personal finances, and provides clear guidance on what options are available to them. She also assists clients to appreciate and negotiate the tax aspects of their business deals.

If an individual or business has international tax needs, Dee is here to help, whether the issue is based on residence, citizenship, or business activities. Dee’s early career experience in the International Tax group of a “big four” accounting firm helped her gain the necessary experience to help clients navigate and comply with the particularly complex tax requirements for cross-border matters.

Prior to Drummond Woodsum, Dee graduated from Boston University School of Law, where she completed both her J.D. and her LL.M. in Taxation in three years through a dual degree program. While in law school, Dee served as an editor on the Boston University International Law Journal. She has also volunteered with the IRS’s free tax preparation clinic in Boston, preparing tax returns for low-income individuals and families to ensure they were receiving the full advantage of all the tax credits and incentives they were entitled to.

In her free time, Dee loves to be outdoors as much as possible – a nod to growing up in Vermont and walking in the woods almost every day. She also finds fulfillment in reading, arts and crafts, knitting, and meditation.
