Drummond Woodsum’s Hannah King is Appointed to Maine’s Marijuana Advisory Commission

Hannah King, co-chair of Drummond Woodsum’s Regulated Substances practice, has been appointed to the State of Maine Marijuana Advisory Commission by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sara Gideon.  Hannah was appointed as a representative of Maine’s adult use marijuana industry.

“I am honored by the appointment,” said Hannah. “The marijuana laws passed by the legislature last session created a comprehensive regulatory framework.  This is, however, a rapidly changing industry with evolving best regulatory practices. And, the advisory commission is critical to ensuring that Maine continues to be a leader in this space.”

The advisory commission was established by a provision of Public Law 409, An Act to Implement a Regulatory Structure for Adult Use Marijuana.  Its purpose is to conduct a continuing study of laws relating to marijuana and report to the Legislature its findings and recommendations on an annual basis. The commission consists of 15 members including representatives from the Department of Administrative and Financial Services; Health and Human Services; Public Safety, Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry; the Attorney General’s office; 5 members appointed by the President of the Senate; and 5 members appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“Hannah is one of the most knowledgeable and visible faces of Maine’s growing cannabis industry,” said Benjamin Marcus, Managing Director at Drummond Woodsum.  “I am confident she will be a great resource to the commission.”

As an integral part of Drummond Woodsum’s Regulated Substances practice Hannah brings an unmatched understanding of this dynamic and rapidly changing cannabis industry.  She advises tribes across the country, as well as cannabis and CBD businesses and investors in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont on cannabis and hemp licensing and regulatory issues.  During the 128th Session of the Maine State Legislature, Hannah was involved in drafting proposed legislative changes to Maine’s Marijuana Legalization Act and the Maine Medical Use of Marijuana Program. In addition to her advisory board position for Maine Professionals for Regulating Marijuana, a collection of Maine professionals advocating for the safety, quality, and transparency in the marijuana industry, Hannah is active in The ArcView Group, a cannabis angel investment platform based in Oakland, California, and has mentored presenter at Canopy Boulder, a business accelerator and venture fund for the cannabis industry.
