Labor and Employment Attorney

Manchester, New Hampshire

Drummond Woodsum’s Manchester, NH office is seeking an attorney to join our labor and employment law practice group. We are a tight-knit team that provides labor and employment counseling to public, private, and Tribal Nation employers. We provide advice on all aspects of the employer/employee relationship, including workplace discrimination, ADA compliance, state and federal wage and hour laws, workplace misconduct, collective bargaining, and grievance administration. We also represent clients in state and federal courts, before federal and state agencies, and in labor arbitration. Our team is frequently called upon to provide training on employment law topics to supervisors and employees.

This position is open to qualified applicants who have excellent academic credentials, research, writing, interpersonal, and analytical skills, and who are able to balance client advocacy with compassion and understanding. Applicants with 0-2 years of experience and a strong interest in labor and employment law are encouraged to apply. We are invested in the success of all our associates and will provide training, mentoring, and resources to support your development as a labor and employment practitioner. New Hampshire bar admission is not required, but strongly preferred.

Legal Assistant – Unassigned / Floating

Portland, Maine

Drummond Woodsum is seeking an unassigned Legal Assistant to join our firm.  This is an entry-level position with a support-based approach, fielding administrative tasks and requests as they come in from our legal assistants, paralegals, and attorneys across multiple practice groups.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Hand deliveries to court
  • Greeting clients
  • Preparation for meetings (client or internal) including scheduling, meal orders, setting up/breaking down conference rooms
  • Processing incoming and outgoing mail
  • Submitting travel reimbursement and other expense sheets
  • Provide backup support and absence coverage
  • Perform various administrative functions such as conflict checks, opening new matters, and timekeeping management as needed
  • Carrying out other administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Possess strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • General knowledge of common software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, PDF, Excel, and MS Word
  • Able to multitask and balance priorities
  • Motivated to learn and grow

Legal Assistant - Labor & Employment / School Law / Municipal Groups (NH)

Manchester, NH

Drummond Woodsum is seeking a full-time legal assistant to join our Manchester office. This role will provide support across multiple practice areas, including Municipal Law, School Law, and Labor & Employment Law. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, have an understanding of legal terminology and procedures, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Administrative duties to include scanning and copying, answering and directing phone calls, and communicating with clients in a professional and courteous manner; manage incoming and outgoing mail/correspondence and file management (electronic and hard copy)
  • Prepare documents and forms by completing initial drafts, processing edits and red lining in Word, and conversions and manipulations in PDF; proofread and format legal correspondence and filings for accuracy
  • File pleadings and documents electronically through various court and agency e-filing systems
  • Enter, monitor and manage deadlines using legal docketing system and/or Outlook
  • Assist attorneys with accurate time entry, process expense reports and reimbursements to ensure timely submission for billing using firm timekeeping software; review monthly draft invoices
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate meetings
  • Provide exceptional service to all clients
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Be accurate, detail-oriented, and have strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge and use of e-filing systems for state and federal agencies, and state and federal courts
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills; excellent spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills; understanding of legal terminology, court and agency filing systems and legal procedures
  • System proficiency: general knowledge and experience with common software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite and PDF processing; strong Excel and MS Word skills in particular
  • Take initiative, anticipate needs, actively seek ways to contribute, and thrive in a collaborative team environment
  • Motivated to learn and provide work of the highest quality
