Litigation Attorney
Portland, Maine

We seek an attorney to join the Trial Services Group in our Portland, Maine office. If you’re someone who’s gained litigation experience in a law firm, government practice, or through clerking, we want to hear from you!
This is a general litigation role where you will work closely with other skilled litigators and subject matter experts across practice groups, collaborating on the complex legal issues that arise in these cases from the start of a dispute, to trial, and on appeal. You will have the opportunity to showcase your expertise with clients, other practitioners, and in the courtroom.
If you have top-notch research, writing, and oral advocacy skills, a passion for the law, a strong work ethic, a desire to work closely with others, exceptional client relation skills, and impressive academic credentials, we encourage you to apply. Legal Assistant
Portland, Maine
Drummond Woodsum is seeking a Legal Assistant to work in our Portland, ME office. Legal Assistants are responsible for carrying out administrative services, providing support to legal professionals by preparing various documents including correspondence, legal forms and other types of documents, and providing information-management support to enhance attorney/timekeeper effectiveness. This position will support various attorneys in our Business Services Group, with a particular emphasis on real estate transactions.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Complete administrative duties, such as making copies, answering and directing phone calls, and greeting clients in a professional and courteous manner
- Document preparation by processing edits and red-lining in Word, and conversions and manipulations in PDF
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail
- Keeping files and corresponding deadlines organized and identified
- Perform various administrative functions such as conflict checks, opening new matters, and timekeeping management as needed
- Assist attorneys with real estate closings, including disbursing of funds and documents in a timely manner, and compiling electronic closing binders
- Obtain recorded documents from Registry of Deeds, as well as assessing information from Towns including status of taxes
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Be accurate, detail-oriented, and have strong attention to detail
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills; excellent spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills
- System proficiency: general knowledge and experience with common software applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite and PDF processing; strong Excel and MS Word skills in particular
- Familiarity with Simplifile, DocuSign, and Maine Secretary of State website are a plus
- Motivated to learn and provide work of the highest quality
- Able to multitask and balance priorities

File Assistant
Portland, Maine
Drummond Woodsum is seeking a full-time File Assistant to join our firm’s Facilities Department in our Portland office. This role is responsible for maintaining the firm’s physical and digital legal records and ensuring the security and confidentiality of sensitive legal documents in compliance with internal policies and legal regulations. The File Assistant will work closely with attorneys, management, and support staff to support efficient document management processes. Additionally, this role will serve as the primary backup to the firm’s receptionist, assisting with front desk coverage, interoffice mail runs, and additional duties as assigned.
Responsibilities include:
- Organize, maintain, and archive legal files in physical format and coordinate with the Director of Information Technology and Director of Facilities to manage digital file storage
- Retrieve and distribute files as requested by attorneys and staff
- Coordinate with offsite storage providers when necessary
- Conduct regular audits of stored documents to ensure accuracy and proper destruction of outdated materials
- Act as primary backup receptionist, covering daily lunch breaks, sick days, and PTO
- Receive, sort, and distribute mail, packages, and courier deliveries
Skill Requirements:
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects at once
- Strong ability to adapt quickly to new software and technologies
- Professional demeanor with a customer service-oriented mindset
- Problem-solving skills and ability to handle confidential information with discretion
